Cosun Beet Company and Zijderlaan Focus on Electrification
Cosun Beet Company and logistics service provider Zijderlaan will deploy an electric truck this year for the shuttle route between the 'Van Gilse factory' in Roosendaal and the distribution center in Puttershoek. It will be the first e-truck in Zijderlaan's fleet.
Significant CO2 Savings
The route between the two locations, about 53 kilometers long, is perfectly suited for the e-truck. With a range of approximately 300 km, the new DAF XF Electric can be used for all daily trips without needing to recharge in between. Annually, we cover a distance of about 50,000 km on this route. By switching from diesel to electric, we save 72 tons of CO2 according to our calculations.
Sustainability Ambition
This step fits perfectly with the major sustainability ambitions of both Cosun Beet Company and Zijderlaan. We aim to achieve the goals of the Climate Agreement, a 50% CO2 reduction by 2030 compared to 2021, and work towards a healthy living environment and the protection of people and the environment, in the interest of future generations.
Empty Packaging There – Packaged Products Back
In Roosendaal, syrups and other liquid sugars are produced. In Puttershoek, the dry specialties such as powdered sugar and sugar cubes are made. The distribution center of Cosun Beet Company is also located there. In this automated high-bay warehouse, the stock of liquid and dry packaged products and the stock of packaging material are stored. Zijderlaan has been shuttling daily with one truck between both locations for years, always loaded with packaging material or packaged products.
Investment in a Green Future
The electrification of this shuttle route requires a significant but deliberate financial investment from both organizations. Zijderlaan invests in the electric truck, which costs three times more than the latest generation diesel trucks. Cosun Beet Company takes care of the entire charging infrastructure, including the charging station and power supply. This project is also an invaluable learning experience to gain the necessary experience for possible further electrification.
With this important development in the sustainability of road transport, we are collectively reducing CO2 emissions and further building our sustainable relationship. Together towards an emission-free future!
